2. These terms
These terms apply to every order placed through this website. We may update them from time to time; the version on this page when you place your order is the version that applies to that order.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002. Where these terms and that legislation conflict, the legislation applies.
3. Products
We make every effort to describe our products accurately, including sizes, colours and specifications. Product photographs are for illustration. Actual colour may vary slightly between screens, and between manufacturing batches of the same garment.
Sizing varies between manufacturers. Please consult our Size Guide before ordering, and contact us if you are unsure — a short question before ordering is faster than a return afterwards.
Stock availability shown on the site is maintained as accurately as we can. Occasionally an item shows as available but is not. If that happens we will contact you promptly with the options: wait for stock, substitute, or a full refund.
4. Prices
All prices are in South African Rand (ZAR) and shown in the format R1 234,56.
Prices include VAT where applicable. Prices exclude delivery, which is calculated at checkout based on your address.
We may change prices at any time, but never after you have placed an order. If a product is listed at an obviously incorrect price due to a technical or human error, we are not obliged to supply it at that price — we will contact you, and you may confirm at the correct price or cancel for a full refund.
5. Placing an order
- Add items to your cart and complete checkout.
- You will receive an order confirmation email. This email contains our banking details for payment.
- Your order is an offer to buy. A contract of sale comes into existence only when we accept your order and confirm payment received.
We may decline an order — for example where stock is unavailable, where we cannot deliver to your address, or where payment cannot be verified. If we decline after you have paid, you receive a full refund.
Please check that the order confirmation email arrives. If it does not appear within a few minutes, check your spam folder and then contact us. Without it you will not have our banking details.
6. Payment
Payment method: direct bank transfer (EFT) only.
- Our banking details are sent to you in the order confirmation email.
- Use your order number as the payment reference. Payments we cannot match to an order will delay dispatch.
- Email proof of payment to
office@thekarateshop.co.zato speed up processing. - Orders are dispatched only once payment reflects in our account. EFTs between different banks may take 1–2 business days to clear.
- Unpaid orders are cancelled after 7 days and the stock released.
We do not store or process card details on this website.
7. Delivery
We deliver within South Africa using a national courier service.
- Delivery is 1–5 business days from the date payment clears, for items in stock.
- Items on backorder are dispatched once received from our supplier. We will tell you the expected timeframe.
- Someone must be available to accept and sign for the delivery. Couriers do not leave parcels unattended.
- Please supply a street address — couriers cannot deliver to a PO Box — and a working mobile number for the tracking notifications.
Delivery charges
| Destination | Charge |
|---|---|
| Gauteng | R150,00 |
| Rest of South Africa | R200,00 |
| Collection from us, by arrangement | Free |
Charges are applied automatically at checkout based on your delivery address.
We are not responsible for delays caused by the courier, by incorrect address details you supplied, or by circumstances outside our reasonable control. Where a delay is within our control, we will keep you informed.
Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery. Please inspect your parcel on arrival and report any damage or shortage to us within 48 hours, with photographs if the packaging is damaged.
Collection may be available by arrangement — please ask before selecting it at checkout.
8. Returns, refunds and cancellation
Your rights to cancel, return and be refunded are set out in full in our Refund and Returns Policy, which forms part of these terms. In summary:
- You may return most goods within 7 days of delivery for any reason (ECTA cooling-off right), at your own cost for the return shipping.
- Goods that are defective, unsafe or not as described may be returned within 6 months for a refund, replacement or repair, at our cost.
- Certain items are excluded for hygiene reasons or because they were made to order.
9. Your account
If you create an account, you are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity under your account. Tell us immediately if you think it has been compromised.
Please keep your contact and delivery details accurate — we use them to fulfil your orders.
We may suspend or close an account that is used fraudulently or in breach of these terms.
10. Privacy
We collect and process personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and our Privacy Policy.
In short: we collect what we need to process your order, deliver it, and support you afterwards. We share your details with our courier so they can deliver, and with our payment and email service providers so those systems work. We do not sell your personal information.
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us. Some records we are required to keep for tax and accounting purposes.
11. Intellectual property
All content on this website — text, images, product photography, logos and layout — belongs to us or our suppliers and is protected by copyright and trade mark law. You may not reproduce it commercially without our written permission.
Brand names and trade marks of the products we sell belong to their respective owners.
12. Liability
We supply goods for their ordinary intended use.
Martial arts and combat sports carry an inherent risk of injury. Protective equipment reduces risk; it does not eliminate it. You are responsible for choosing equipment appropriate to your discipline, for fitting and inspecting it correctly, for complying with the rules of your federation or association, and for replacing worn equipment. We are not liable for injury arising from training, competition, incorrect fitting, misuse, modification, or use of worn or damaged equipment.
Where equipment must meet a specific federation or tournament standard, confirm the requirement with your instructor or federation before ordering. Approval requirements change, and differ between federations.
To the maximum extent the law permits, our liability for any claim relating to an order is limited to the amount you paid for the goods concerned. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost training time, competition entry fees or travel costs.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including under sections 60 and 61 of the Consumer Protection Act.
13. Care and use of goods
Follow the manufacturer’s care instructions. As general guidance:
- Wash uniforms in cold water, do not tumble dry, do not bleach. Heat shrinks cotton uniforms.
- Air protective equipment after every session; do not machine wash foam-filled gear.
- Inspect equipment regularly and replace anything with compressed padding, perished elastic, cracked shells or failed stitching.
Damage caused by failure to follow care instructions is not a manufacturing defect and is not covered.
14. General
Whole agreement. These terms, together with our Refund and Returns Policy and Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us about your order.
Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remain in force.
Governing law. South African law governs these terms, and the South African courts have jurisdiction.
Complaints. Contact us first at office@thekarateshop.co.za — we would much rather resolve it directly. If we cannot, you may refer the matter to the National Consumer Commission or an accredited consumer goods ombud.
